Privacy Policy

What we store and why.

Operator: Isabi FactCheck Africa. This is a working notice for the service; have it reviewed by counsel for your jurisdiction before launch.

What we collect

  • Your submission: the claim or article text and optional URL you enter.
  • A keyed hash of your IP address for rate limiting and abuse prevention. We do not store the raw IP address with submissions.
  • Feedback you send. An email address is stored only if you tick the box allowing us to contact you.
  • Technical logs of provider calls (type, success, duration) without request content.

We do not ask for accounts and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. A session cookie is used only for forms and staff login.

Who sees your submission

To produce a report, your submitted text is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini by default; requested not to be stored on their side) and parts of it are sent to a web-search provider as search queries. If you use the optional voice input (Speak Guard), speech recognition is performed by your browser, which may send the audio to its vendor's speech service; we receive only the resulting text. Do not submit confidential or personal information about other people.

Visibility. A report is reachable only through its long, unguessable link. There is no public directory of submissions. A check is listed on the optional “Recent checks” page only if both the submitter ticked the sharing box and our editors have enabled that page. Anyone you give the link to can open the report, and our editors can see all reports.

Retention

Submissions and their reports are deleted automatically after 90 days. Operational logs are deleted sooner. Published corrections remain attached to a report only while the report exists.

Your choices

To have a report removed, use the feedback form with the report link and choose “Something else”.
